Turkey Trot!

This afternoon, our 8th grade 'big sisters' planned a relay race for the girls.  They had to dress up in clothes and race to the other end of the gym.  Afterward, the 8th graders presented the 5th graders with a "Surviving the Middle School" booklet that they created to give advice and wisdom to the girls.  They advised them about social, academic, computer, etc issues that they might face.  We had a short question and answer time as well.  The 8th graders dispensed their wisdom with ease and teachers learned we are 'awkward." :-)

Introduction to Islam

As we begin to explore the final religion in our World Religions unit, I want you to listent to the following two videos as homework. You may not understand everything, but listen and take brief notes to share in class on Wednesday. Feel free to write down any questions you have and bring them to class.

We'll use this website in class tomorrow.

Sharing Stories with 6th Age

The girls researched a children's book author for their October book report, and then chose one of the author's books to read to their 6th Age buddy. Since it was such a BEAUTIFUL day outside today, Mrs. DeLorbe and I thought it would be great to have the girls read to their buddy in the gazebo and Molly's Garden. It made for great pictures!

Judaism Glogs

The girls learned about the religion of Judaism as part of our World Religion unit. The girls had to research two websites to find various facts about Judaism, then working in pairs, had to create audio recordings using the web site - Vocaroo, and locate images that compliment their recordings. All of this was added to their 'team' glog and shared with the class. They did a great job! Check out these glogs. Click on the "play" buttons to hear student voices explain various facts about Judaism.

Kevin O'Malley - Illustrator

We had quite an interesting and engaging morning today!  We began the day with Deb Long, mother of 6th grader - Will Long, who spoke about the different world religions and the importance of being non-judgmental.   Then, we walked over the lower school, where illustrator, Kevin O'Malley, wowed the students with his storytelling, illustrating, and sense of humor!  He showed the students how when you draw something, you have the power to control what other people think.  Below are some pictures of his presentation and a short video clip.  The students LOVED him!  Thank you to Mrs. Thompson, the Middle School Librarian, for coordinating his visit!
